MONASTERIO DE CORIAS RED WINE

PDO Cangas crianza red wine of the Albarín Tinto, Mencía, Carrasquín and Verdejo red varieties, harvested by hand at their optimum maturity point from high mountain vineyards in Cangas del Narcea.
The Monasterio de Corias winery is undoubtedly the most famous of the Cangas Protected Designation of Origin wine where production began within the convent located in Cangas del Narcea, although a few years ago, production needs required relocation to a plot adjacent to the old monastery, now converted into a National Parador Hotel.
Monasterio de Corias wine production is varied and ranges from red to white, single variety or a blend of different local grapes. The winery has even recovered one of the oldest vineyards in the area, dating from the late 19th century.
The production of Cangas PDO Wine is also recognised as heroic viticulture due to the harsh growing conditions in an area with slopes greater than 30% where it is absolutely impossible to use machinery for harvesting tasks.
